The LGBT Community and Mediation

Despite the incredible advances the LGBT community has made in civil rights over the past decade, the legal landscape for LGBT parties remains very much in flux. The Supreme Court’s rulings in favor of same sex marriage have overlapped with increasing pressure to pass religious liberty laws and transgender bathroom bills. This presentation will provide an overview of the current status of LGBT rights and challenges to those rights in Illinois and the United States. It will then explore the benefits of using mediation to resolve disputes when there are LGBT parties involved.
