The Transformative Mediation Model is more than 20 years old. It has been used by government agencies, large defense contractors, marriage counselors and divorce mediators, hospitals, nursing homes, and more. It has its own think-tank and its own certification process. The Method is not well understood outside its practitioners, and has not been well accepted into the mainstream of mediation application.
Join Ed Sacks, mediator and trainer, who has extensive training in and has actively employed the Transformative Model for 15 years. Ed speaks from an outsider's perspective, not having been certified by the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation (by his own choice). He describes the Model and its practice and makes his own renegade observations.
Ed Sacks is a writer, mediator and trainer. He has convened approximately 1400 mediation conferences and worked with approximately 4000 participants since 1991. Ed has been honored by the Better Business Bureau as Arbitrator of the Year, by the Center for Conflict Resolution as Peace Maker of the Year. He holds a grant from the City of Chicago, spanning from 1995 to the present, for a housing conflict management and communications training program called RADR (Resources for Alternative Dispute Resolution). Under the grant several thousand landlords, tenants and not-for-profit organization staffs have been trained. The US Department of Housing and Urban Development gave RADR a "Best of the Best" achievement award. He is a volunteer with the Center for Conflict Resolution. He was a weekly contributing columnist with the Chicago Sun-Times for 17 years, writing about rental problems and landlord/tenant relations. He is also the author of five published books.
